BEST DRESSED DOG
Dressed up and nowhere to go? Tell the family pooch the good news – it the Best Dressed Dog competition. The City of Midland Animal Services will host the costume contest on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. at the Hogan’s Run Dog Park located at 1201 E. Wadley.
Get your dog dressed in his Sunday best or his scariest Halloween look. There are no limits except to ensure the costume allows for the wearing of a collar and appropriate tags.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three dogs.
This is the second “theme party” of what will be monthly events held at the Dog Park.

OCTOBER SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office. The total amount of revenue received was $1,819,882.
This month's figure reflects a 20.77% increase or a $312,930 increase from October 2006.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 20.77% or a $312,930 increase from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $1,819,882.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; October collection is based on August sales.
This is the 49th consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.
***October marks the beginning of FY2007-08. Sales tax revenues for FY2006-07 reached an all time high of $22,011,118. This is up 15.90% from FY2005-06 when sales tax revenues reached $18,990,000.
PARKS & RECREATION HOSTS
MAINTENANCE RODEO
The City of Midland Parks & Recreation Divisions will host an unusual competition that promises to deliver a few “Kodak Moments.” It is the third annual Maintenance Rodeo. The event will take place on Friday, October 12, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2300 Butternut.
Competitions will include Nail Driving, Leaf Blowing, Lawn Mowing, Truck and Trailer Operations, and Backhoe Operations.
The goal is to develop two teams that will advance to the Tri-Region Competition to be held at the annual Texas Recreation and Park Society Annual Conference in Odessa on October 25th.
This will be the third consecutive year that the City of Midland sends a team to compete.
