STABBING

VEST DONATION
Students and parents of a Midland Elementary School are doing their party to help protect the police officers that work to keep our community safe by donating to the Midland Police Department’s Invest In A Vest Program.
On Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at 6:30 p.m., the students and PTA of Washington Elementary Math and Science Institute will donate $564 toward the purchase of a bulletproof vest. The event will take place at the school, 1800 E. Wall Street.
The PTA hosts one major fundraiser each fall. A portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Midland Police Department and the purchase of the vest.
The Invest In A Vest Program was started in 1993. More than 200 vests have been purchased through the program.
The cost of each vest is approximately $564. Every Midland Police Department officer is issued body armor. The company manufacturing the vests offers a five-year warranty.
With every vest donation, the name of the company, organization, or individual is placed on the side of the patrol car of the officer who is wearing the donated vest.
MISSING MAN’S BODY FOUND
The body of a Midland man missing for more than six weeks was discovered last night, October 12, 2007, in Andrews County.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., 38-year-old Timothy Dane McCabe was found in his vehicle, a 1997 Maroon GMC extended cab pickup, approximately 14 miles south southeast of Andrews off of FM 1788. A rancher discovered the vehicle and body approximately one-quarter mile east of 1788. The vehicle was locked and McCabe was still wearing the seatbelt.
For unknown reasons, it is apparent that the vehicle left the roadway, driving through a fence, and coming to a stop among several mesquite bushes.
No foul play is suspected. The body is being sent to Lubbock for an autopsy.
Police received the missing person report on August 28th. McCabe left Monday morning, August 27, 2007, in route to his job in Hobbs, New Mexico. On Tuesday, his boss called his fiancé in Midland to ask if he was coming to work. She informed the boss he had left for work on Monday. She then contacted police to make a missing person report.
McCabe was a mechanic with Duke Energy in Hobbs. He lived in Midland with his fiancé and drove home on the weekends.
