PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT
Midland Police are investigating an overnight pedestrian accident that has left one woman in critical condition and a male driver behind bars.

Just after 3:00 a.m., police were called to the scene near the intersection of Wadley Avenue and Mark Lane.  19-year-old Rita Mathis was walking eastbound on Wadley near the outer edge of traffic.  30-year-old Craig McNeese was traveling eastbound in a Ford Taurus when he struck Mathis with his vehicle.  McNeese initially fled the scene but returned to find the victim in a grassy area.  He contacted emergency personnel.

McNeese was arrested for DWI.  Mathis was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

It is not believed that McNeese caused the accident, however he was arrested for drunk driving.

The investigation continues.

CITY EMPLOYEES HONORED FOR EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
The City of Midland will honor 14 employees who have gone beyond the call of duty at its annual Exceeding Expectations Awards Banquet to be held November 1, 2007, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Permian Basin Museum, Library and Hall of Fame located at 1500 I-20.

A total of 42 nominations were received during the year.  A committee of Midland business leaders reviewed all the nominations that received a “3” rating (actions demonstrated exemplary behavior and should be considered by the Executive Awards Committee for special recognition). They then selected this year’s finalists.  Finalists include: Adolfo Alaniz, Johnny Ceballos, Robert Garcia, Leroy Montez and Danny Robertson, W&WW Maintenance; Lorenzo Diab and Dennis Yates, Garage; Hilda Espinosa and Nathan Lann, PD; Jayme Farmer, Steve Forbes and Chuck Martin, Fire Department; Matt Kerley, Purification Plant; and Raymond Saddler, W&WW Ops Adm.

Each finalist will be given the chance to win two complimentary round trip tickets anywhere Southwest Airlines flies plus $300 spending money.
