RESTROOMS IN PARKS CLOSED FOR WINTER
The City of Midland Parks & Recreation Staff want to remind citizens that all restrooms located in City parks will be winterized and closed. This is part of Parks and Recreation's annual maintenance schedule.
The process involves 13 parks (all City parks with restrooms) and 29 facilities. Winterizing includes cutting off the water supply, filling bowls with antifreeze to keep the water in the lines and the toilets from freezing, as well and cleaning the restrooms before locking and securing.
The restrooms will reopen in March 2008.

SCAM
The Midland Police Department is issuing a warning to residents – beware of the latest scam.
The department has recently received reports of senior citizens falling victim to a scam. Residents in the area are being contacted by phone by persons telling them they are lawyers or lottery agents. They then convince the victim they have won large sums of money in a overseas lottery and need to pay handling fees or taxes to get the money.
The scammers give the victim account numbers in banks in various locations. They are asked to wire transfer the money to these accounts. They are then asked to fax a copy of the wire transfer paperwork to the scammer for verification. The victims are then promised that a certified delivery service will deliver a check to them. Of course the check never arrives.
There are many variations of this type of scam, mainly originating out of Nigeria or Cyprus, as well as other countries. The scammers are operating in the U.S. to appear legitimate.
The MPD advises against talking with anyone over the phone about bank account information..
