The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office.  The total amount of revenue received was $2,215,216.

This month's figure reflects a 10.59% increase or a $212,050 increase from November 2007.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2007-2008 is up 14.96% or a $524,980 increase from last year's totals at this time.  Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $4,035,098.

NOVEMBER 13th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • During a 9:00 briefing session, the City Council will listen to a presentation regarding recent efforts made to recruit qualified candidates for municipal jobs.   Included in the presentation are new efforts in process as well as a preview of initiatives to be implemented in the near future.  The city’s employee recruiter will present new ways the City of Midland is attracting top-notch employees as well as finding people to fill much needed positions.  Advertising, the Internet, Videos, and Networking will all be discussed during this session.
  • During the regular meeting, the City Council will consider authorizing a contract with the Vandergriff Group for architectural services in conjunction with the redevelopment of Centennial Plaza.  The architects will compile a list of options concerning renovations to Centennial Plaza.  These will include addressing the fountains, reconfiguring the walls of the amiptheatre, and the hardscape surface.  The City will consider the options and decide which to complete.  Media Contact: Mark Phillips/Director of Facilities & Fleet Management at 685.7235
  • The City Council will consider accepting a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for the purpose of purchasing bulletproof vests.  The $6,780 grant reimburses 50% of the total costs to purchase bulletproof vests to replace those that have and will expire.  The remaining 50% of the cost comes from donations in the “Invest in a Vest” fund.  The MPD has previously received five of these grants which have resulted in a savings to the City of $63,524.65.  Each MPD officer is equipped with a bulletproof vest.  The vests are replaced every five years at a cost of $564.00 each.
