POLICE & VOLUNTEERS PATROL RETAIL AREAS
The Midland Police Department’s Mobile Substation will police retail areas of the City during the holiday season.  The substation officers hope their presence will help deter crime.

Officers and volunteers will man the substation. Officers will be out on foot and will also be on bicycle patrol in the parking lots.

This is a busy time of year for major retail areas of the City.  Having the officers present will help patrol officers with the calls for service.  The officers will be on the lookout for shoplifters, auto burglars, purse and wallet snatchers, and other criminal activity.  They are also available for any public assistance that may be needed.

Included is a copy of the substation schedule for the holiday season.  The schedule is always subject to change.

The public is invited to stop by and tour the substation.

For more than seven years, M.P.D. has utilized the substation in retail areas during the holiday season.

CITY CREWS PROVIDE STREET MAINTENANCE
The Transportation Division will begin its annual crack seal project on Monday, December 3, 2007.  There are two main areas of concentration this year.

Crews will begin sealing arterial and collector streets located north of Loop 250, between  Midkiff Road and Big Spring Street.  Following the first phase, workers will concentrate efforts north of Loop 250 between Holiday Hill Road and Midland Drive.  The project is scheduled to last through mid-March.

Crack sealing involves cleaning and filling of cracks to prevent or reduce intrusion of water into the sub-grade.  Cracks are filled with a hot-applied rubberized sealant.   Intrusion of water into the sub-grade plays a major role in asphalt pavement problems from potholes to pavement failure.

The City urges the motorists to keep an eye out for the crew and observe all work zone traffic control devices.
