GET YOUR HOUSE ON CITY’S WEBSITE
The City of Midland is celebrating the holiday season and wants residents to join in on the fun.

So get out your digital camera and help decorate the City of Midland webpage with a picture of your home.

Residents are asked to email pictures of their homes all decorated with lights and other ornaments.  The address to send pictures is:

Christmas@midlandtexas.gov
The City of Midland website address is:
www.midlandtexas.gov

When emailing a picture, please include your home address.  This will allow citizens to view the pictures and then choose which ones to possibly go view in person.  Originality is encouraged but good taste is required.

The pictures will provide an opportunity to showcase Midland’s holiday spirit while inviting people to visit the City’s website.  Everyone can help spread the good cheer by inviting family and friends, even those living out of the area, to view your decorated house on the City’s homepage.

Between now and Christmas, the City’s website homepage will offer tips to help keep citizens, their families, and homes and cars, safe.  The information will be placed on the homepage along with the pictures of decorated Midland houses.

POLICE RECRUITS GRADUATE
The 79th session of the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy will hold a graduation ceremony on Friday, December 14, 2007, at 1:00 p.m.  The event will take place at the Midland Center, 105 N. Main Street.  Eleven recruits will walk the stage as a culmination to months of hard work.

The graduation is good news for the Midland Police Department as nine of the eleven graduates will go to work for the MPD.  One recruit from the Lamesa Police Department will graduate and one recruit from the Western Texas College Police Department in Snyder will graduate.

The recruits from the Midland Police Department include:  Erik D. White, James H. Cox, Jason R. Moore, Riki M. Aquirre, Johnny R. Flores, Demetrius S. Lee, Stephen G.

Truex, Wendy C. Hogan, and Graham P. Bloodworth.

Lamesa's graduate is Kevin Bullard and WTC's graduate is Jeremiah W. Witte.

The 18-week academy began back on August 13.  The academy included a rigorous academic schedule, physical fitness, as well has defensive tactics training.  All were required to pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education exam.

The new officers will move on to the Field Training Officer (FTO) program as Probationary Police Officers (PPO) for 17-weeks.  During this time, they are teamed up with experienced officers and are rated daily on their performance in the field as well as paper work.

This is a particularly large graduating class for the MPD.  On average, the MPD usually graduates up to five per academy.   The MPD is currently working to test and fill spots for the next academy in February 2008.

Anyone interested in becoming a police officer should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7590.
