JANUARY 22nd CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • The City Council will consider approval of the execution of a contract for programming and design services in regards to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.  The architectural firm of Sink Combs Dethlefs would perform a feasibility study, programming study, and provide conceptual drawings of a renovated facility.
  • The City Council will consider resolutions authorizing the execution of Sports Agreements with seven different associations.  They include: the Permian Basin United Soccer Association; Midland Soccer Association; Midland Softball Association; Midland United Girls Softball Association; Midland Recreational Soccer League; Greater Midland Football League; and the Texas Cricket Club.  Through these agreements, recreation costs for running league and tournament play have been a savings to the operating budget for the Community Services Department.  Also, through matching funds raised by the associations, capital improvements have been made to facilities that would otherwise have been carried in the City’s operating budget.
  • The City Council will consider approval of a request for qualifications (RFQ) in regards to retaining a search firm to assist the City in recruiting and hiring a City Manager.  The RFQ will remain open until February 22 with a contract awarded and negotiated on March 11, 2008.  It is the goal of the City Council to have a new City Manager hired by June 1, 2008.
  • During a second reading, the City Council will consider final approval of the Value Place Hotel.  The Council directed staff to work with the applicant to include a list of security measures to be included in the ordinance regulating the use of the hotel property.   The security measures will be examined by Council.
