FEBRUARY 26th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • During a 9:00 a.m. briefing session, the City Council will listen to a presentation regarding Fire Department’s 10 year strategic plan.  The department contracted with a consulting service for a two-part study that included addressing the placement of current and future fire stations and how the city could improve its Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating.  A proposed plan of action will be outlined in the future to include how to maintain an adequate level of service while considering the current and future growth of the city.
  • During the regular meeting, the City Council will consider approval on second reading of a moratorium on the issuance of sign permits for any type of electronic reader board, L.E.D. sign, or digital billboard.  The moratorium would be in place for four months.  Many cities nationwide, as well as the Texas Department of Transportation, are undergoing a review of the regulation of these types of signs.  This new technology is not addressed under the city’s sign code.  A subcommittee has been formed to help examine the issue.
  • The City Council will listen to a presentation regarding the 2007 Accident Report.  A full news release will precede the presentation.
  • The City Council will take another step toward finding a new City Manager.  They will discuss the selection of a search firm to assist in the recruitment and selection of a City Manager.  They may consider authorization of a contract with a search firm, authorize negotiations with a firm, or schedule interviews with certain search firms.
  • The City Council will discuss demolition and disposal of downtown buildings and consider adopting a policy for disposal of the demolition materials at the City landfill. The resolution would recommend a sliding scale over a five-year period for fees waived.  The discussion is part of the City Council’s ongoing priority to revitalize the downtown area.  Media Contact: Kay Snyder/Director of Utilities at 685.7261
