PRESS CONFERENCE
The City of Midland, Midland County, the Texas Forest Service, and area volunteer fire departments are preparing for extremely critical fire weather conditions.  A press conference will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Midland County Horseshoe.  The media is encouraged to attend.

The Horseshoe is being prepared to serve as a command post in the event of an emergency over the next three days.  Critical wind conditions are expected on Friday.

Citizens can do their part to prepare as well.  The burn ban is still in effect and everyone is encouraged to refrain from outdoor activities that would potentially cause a fire.  Officials also suggest that residents help protect their homes from fire by clearing any combustible material around the home and the alleys.

Other tips for fire prevention include reporting any illegal burning activities, refrain from smoking outdoors, using your ashtray to dispose of cigarettes while in your vehicle, and reporting any fire quickly with accurate location information.
