MARCH 25th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • DISCUSSED: During the 8:30 a.m. briefing session, the City Council viewed newly produced City of Midland videos.  With video becoming a growing part of the Internet, the City of Midland is beefing up production and placement of videos on its website www.midlandtexas.gov.  Recent videos include a segment regarding Water Conservation, the Mayor’s State of the City address, Make Midland Home, Police Recruiting, and ten mini videos highlighting Midland’s Shopping & Dining, Tourism, Economic Development, Healthcare, Education, Real Estate & Relocation, and Parks & Recreation.  The videos are also used on the city’s cable access station, Suddenlink channel two and Grande channel six.
  • APPROVED: During the regular meeting, the City Council approved support of the Marian Blakemore Planetarium Renovation project.  The majority of the $2.7 million dollar project is funded through the State of Texas.  The remainder of the funds has come from local sources.  The Council approved awarding $40,000 for replacement of the roof of the planetarium.  The 36-year-old facility serves as the only public planetarium in West Texas.  The entire project will upgrade the current facility and equipment with completion scheduled for mid-2009.
