MEMORIAL SERVICE
The Midland Police Department will host the annual Peace Officer’s Memorial Service in connection with National Law Enforcement Week, May 11-17, 2008.  The service is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the atrium at Clay Desta Center, #6 Desta Drive. The public is encouraged to attend.

The service honors law enforcement officers who have lost their lives protecting their communities.  Twenty-two Texas Peace Officers died in the line of duty from May 1, 2007, – April 30, 2008.

They are:  Deputy Paul Habelt/Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Tony Ogburn/Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Agent Robert Smith/US Department of Homeland Security, Game Warden Teyran Patterson/Texas Park and Wildlife, Officer Jeffrey McCoy/Abilene Police Department, Deputy Michael Page/Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Dayle Hardy/Plano Police Department, Corporal John Gardner/Odessa Police Department, Corporal Arlie Jones/Odessa Police Department, Corporal Abel Marquez/Odessa Police Department, Officer David Camden/Temple Police Department, Detective Mario Moreno/San Antonio Police Department, Officer Susan Canfield/Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Deputy Constable Jason Norling/Harris County Constable’s Office, Investigator Dale Sherrill/Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Officer James Saavedra/Port of Corpus Christi Police Department, Deputy Constable David Joubert/Harris County Constable’s Office, Officer Matthew Thebeau/Corpus Christi Police Department, Corporal Harry Thielepape/Harris County Constable’s Office, Deputy Craig Miller/Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Corporal Victor Lozada-Tirado, Trooper James Burns/Texas Department of Public Safety.

Also being remembered are three Midland Police Department Officers who died in the line of duty.  Officer John Wyrick, November 10, 1935.  Officer Bryan Scoggins, April 14, 1961.  Lieutenant Gordon Smith Jr., November 28, 1961.

Representatives from several area law enforcement agencies will participate in the service.  The public is invited to attend. 


CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PACHANGA
Various departments and divisions from the City of Midland will participate in the Pachanga event scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  The celebration will take place at Dunagan Park, 600 E. Gist.  The community is invited to attend this free event.

Representatives from Code Enforcement, Police & Fire, the Health Department, Community Development Block Grant, and Parks & Recreation will pass out information about various programs.  There will also be information available regarding job opportunities with the City of Midland.

Police & Fire will display trucks, vehicles, and other equipment as well as the “smoke house” available for children.

Pachanga is hosted by Comunidad in Action.  It is an opportunity for neighbors to come together, learn more about their community, and have a chance to fellowship with others. 


MISSING PERSON
Midland Police need your help in locating a missing person. 

38-year-old Robert Martin Wilson (4-16-70) was last seen in Odessa on March 30, 2008.  His family in Midland contacted the MPD on May 9, 2008.

Wilson had been staying at the Studio 6 Motel in Odessa.

He is described as a white male, 6’2” tall, and weighing around 220 pounds.  He has brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone with information regarding Wilson’s whereabouts should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108.
