CITY MANAGER SEARCH UPDATE
The Midland City Council will meet in Executive Session on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, to further discuss the City Manager process. Following the Executive Session, the City Council will further discuss their intentions in an open meeting.

Current Mount Pleasant City Manager Courtney Sharp made a second visit to Midland last week. During that visit, he met with community and employee focus groups, council members, and department managers. The feedback from those meetings has been forwarded to the City Council Members.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the City Council will further discuss Sharp as a candidate for the position. At this time, no job offer has been made.

MPD OFFICER CHARGED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION
A Midland Police Department Officer was terminated today, August 13, 2008, and was immediately arrested and charged with Official Oppression.

26-year-old Jason Moore, a one-year officer with the department, was terminated by Interim Police Chief Price Robinson this morning and was then taken to Central Detention. This follows both an internal and criminal investigation into allegations the officer made unwanted advances toward a female while on duty.

On June 26, 2008, at 12:46 am, Moore responded to a domestic disturbance call along with other patrol officers. A husband and wife were involved in the disturbance. The officers separated the couple and the husband left the scene. Officers left the scene with the exception of Moore. He went with the complainant to her vehicle to obtain more information. It is at this time that the female reports the officer subjected her to unwanted sexual advances and asked for sexual favors. The victim refused the advances and reported the incident to Midland Police on August 3, 2008.

On August 8, 2008, Moore was placed on Administrative Suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. Today, Detectives charged Moore with Official Oppression, a Class A Misdemeanor.

“The Midland Police Department does not condone this type of behavior. I want it made perfectly clear that public trust is of the utmost importance to this department and the men and woman that serve our community. This is an isolated incident that we are taking seriously. We do not tolerate such a violation of public trust.” said Interim Police Chief Price Robinson.

The case has been turned over to District Attorney Teresa Clingman for prosecution.
