CITY COUNCIL MAKES CITY MANAGER OFFER
During today’s City Council meeting, August 26, 2008, the City Council voted 6-1 to extend a job offer to the lone City Manager candidate invited to visit Midland twice. Council Member Vicky Hailey voted against the motion.

A contract offer has been made to Courtney Sharp. Sharp is the current City Manager in Mount Pleasant.

The contract includes a salary of $158,000 and six months’ severance. The employment agreement is structured to strengthen the council-manager relationship by enhancing the excellence and continuity of the management of the city for the benefit of its citizens.

A start date for employment is pending the acceptance of the contract. The contract will be made available to the public, and posted on the City’s website, www.midlandtexas.gov, as soon as all the details are worked out. PROMOTION

The Midland Fire Department will promote an employee to higher ranks. A ceremony will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at the Central Fire Station.

Fire Fighter Martin Nunez will move to the rank of Fire Driver. Le Clair has been with the department for eight years.


LONG TIME PD OFFICER RETIRES

The Midland Police Department will bid farewell to a long time officer.

Sgt. Kim Martinez, a 20-year employee, will retire on Wednesday, August 27, 2008. A celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the third floor classroom of the MPD.

Sgt. Martinez most recently served as a patrol sergeant. During her tenure she worked in community relations and in accreditation.
