CITY MANAGER SIGNS CONTRACT
Courtney Sharp is officially Midland’s new City Manager. Sharp’s signed contract arrived today, September 3, 2008.
His first day on the job is scheduled for October 1, 2008.
During the August 26, 2008, City Council meeting, the City Council voted 6-1 to extend a job offer to Sharp.
He is the current City Manager in Mount Pleasant.
The contract includes a salary of $158,000 and six months’ severance. The employment agreement is structured to strengthen the council-manager relationship by enhancing the excellence and continuity of the management of the city for the benefit of its citizens.
The contract is available to the public, and posted on the City’s website, www.midlandtexas.gov. Look on the left hand column under City Manager Update.
BURGLARY OF A HABITATION with the Intent to Commit Assault
Midland Police were called to the scene of a shooting at 3:40 a.m. this morning, September 3, 2008, at 1205 E. Parker.
When officers arrived they found 18-year-old Tervouria Shaw with a gunshot wound to the upper leg. The investigation revealed that two black male suspects, wearing masks and gloves, forced their way into the residence by kicking in the front door. A third suspect forced his way in through the victim’s bedroom window. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. It is unknown what type of weapons the other two had. The suspects asked Shaw for property before one suspect fired the handgun, striking him in the leg. They did not take anything from the residence.
Shaw was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police identified one of the suspects and made an arrest. 29-year-old Jarvis Johnson (6-11-79) was charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit another Felony. Detectives are following leads and hope to make two other arrests in the case. The victim and suspects are known to each other.
The investigation continues.

Midland Police have identified a second suspect in an early morning shooting. A warrant has been issued for Derome Williams (9-18-80) for Burglary of a Habitation with the Intent to Commit another Felony.
Williams is a black male, 5’5” tall, weighing 145 pounds. He has a playboy bunny tattoo on his left hand. He also goes by the nickname of Dolla.

ROAD CLOSURE
Motorists who travel Golf Course Road between Midkiff and Tarleton should consider another route during the next week.
Golf Course Road will be closed to westbound traffic beginning west of Midkiff to Tarleton for approximately one week. City workers will be repairing pavement damage due to a leak beneath the surface.
Motorists are urged to choose an alternate route and obey all barricades and traffic control signs in the area.
