30-year-old Benjamin Franklin (12-19-77) was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m., September 5, 2008, in Odessa.  He was found sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot of Motel 6 at Interstate 20 and Grant Street.  The vehicle was a 2006 grey Nissan Altima.  Franklin was arrested by the M.P.D. SWAT Team and U.S. Marshals without incident.  Officers located the gun, believed to be used in the shooting, inside the vehicle.  It is a .40 caliber pistol.

Dispatchers received a call from 1405 W. Michigan at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Thursday evening.  The caller was seeking medical help for her daughter who was found on the living room floor bleeding.  When EMS arrived, the paramedics quickly realized the woman suffered a gunshot wound.

Police arrived at the scene and began their work on a homicide.  The victim, 26-year-old Monica Beasley had been staying at the residence with her children and her mother.  Detectives were able to identify the suspect as the victim’s boyfriend Ben Franklin.

The investigation continues.
