OCTOBER SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office.  The total amount of revenue received was $2,062,509.

This month's figure reflects a 13.33% increase or a $242,627 increase from October 2007.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2008-2009 is up 13.33% or a $242,627 increase from last year's totals at this time.  Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $2,062,509.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; October collection is based on August sales.

This is the 61st consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.

***October marks the beginning of FY2008-09.  Sales tax revenues for FY2007-08 reached an all time high of $24,940,466.  This is up 13.31% from FY2006-07 when sales tax revenues reached $22,011,118.

WATER SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS
As part of the City’s improvements to the water pressure in west Midland, workers will begin replacing a valve in a major line on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.  During the valve replacement of the 33" line, water deliveries to the southwestern portion of the City will be limited.  Residents are asked to conserve water by reducing their outdoor water usage.

The valve replacement will take place in the alley north of Storey and east of Edgewood.

As preparation for this project, the City will drain one of the five million gallon ground storage tanks at Storey and Edgewood.  This process begins on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.  Residents along Storey may notice a significant amount of water flowing along their curbs for the remainder of this week.  Residents should not be alarmed as it is only part of the construction.

ROBBERY UPDATE
The man who reported a Robbery late last month is now facing charges himself.

Arrest warrants have been issued for 22-year-old Stephen Marcum (8-12-86).  He is wanted for False Report to a Peace Officer and Theft over $500 under $1,500.  Authorities believe the former Kroc’s Bar employee and his accomplice left Midland once detectives found him to be a suspect and not a victim.

It was first reported that two black males approached Marcum as he worked the front door at the bar and took a bank bag containing an undetermined amount of cash on September 27, 2008.

Following the investigation, detectives determined the report was not true and Marcum and his friend 19-year-old Jared Pickett (12-4-88) took the cash.  A warrant has been issued for Pickett for Theft over $500 under $1,500.

Anyone with information on either of the two suspect’s whereabouts should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108 or Crimestoppers at 694.TIPS.
