THE COMMUNICATOR
The City of Midland is seeking the help of its residents to keep everyone “connected.” The Public Safety Communications Center utilizes a notification system called “The Communicator” to notify citizens for certain type of incidents including lost children, hazardous spills, etc. This system uses a map and a telephone database to make notification of certain affected areas.
The telephone database is only for regular telephone land lines and does not have any cellular phone data. Realizing that more and more citizens are replacing their regular telephone land lines with cellular phones, the City has developed a way to still stay in touch with cell phone numbers.
The City of Midland will be registering anyone that wants to use their cell phone for notification of any incidents in the area of their residence. This one time registration will allow The Communicator to notify a resident, via their cell phone, of any emergencies in their neighborhood.
This registration process will begin on November 19, 2008. Citizens can register by visiting the City of Midland website www.midlandtexas.gov . Citizens can also register by phone by calling 685.7469 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

RESTROOMS IN PARKS CLOSED FOR WINTER
The City of Midland Parks & Recreation Staff want to remind citizens that all restrooms located in City parks will be winterized and closed. This is part of Parks and Recreation's annual maintenance schedule.
The process involves 13 parks (all City parks with restrooms) and 29 facilities. Winterizing includes cutting off the water supply, filling bowls with antifreeze to keep the water in the lines and the toilets from freezing, as well and cleaning the restrooms before locking and securing.
The restrooms will reopen in March 2009.
