STOCKING POSTPONED
Fisherman wanting to catch trout at the City’s two ponds will have to wait until January.  The normally scheduled December stocking has been postponed due to golden algae at Beal Park.

The Beal Park fishing pond, 5200 W. Wall Street, is currently empty.  It is now being treated and will be tested again later this month.  Officials with Texas Fish & Wildlife out of San Angelo are expected to restock the pond in early January.

The City’s other fishing pond, located at CJ Kelley Park, 5500 League Drive, did not test positive for golden algae.  However, officials will wait until January to travel to Midland to restock both ponds.

RETIREMENT
The City of Midland will bid farewell to a long time department manager.  David Hunter/Director of Administrative Services will retire effective early January.  On December 22, 2008, a retirement party will be held in his honor from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the basement conference room at City Hall.

Hunter has worked for the City of Midland for over 30-years as the Director of Administrative Services.

The media is encouraged to help make this a special day for the employee.

MOBILE SUBSTATION PATROLS RETAIL AREAS
Beginning today, December 19, 2008, the Midland Police Department’s Mobile Substation and its officers will be out in full force keeping an eye on retail shopping areas.  The substation and officers will work every day from December 19 – December 24.

Last minute shoppers are expected to converge on retail stores including the areas around Midland Park Mall, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Wal-Mart North and Wal-Mart South.

This is part of the MPD’s annual project to help keep these busy areas safe.  Shoppers are asked to take simple precautions to not become a victim: walk with someone, hide packages inside vehicles, and to carry only what you need.
