WATER DELIVERY IMPROVEMENTS
Residents of Southwest Midland, as well as motorists driving through the area, may notice an excessive amount of water in the roadways.  For the final time in the construction of the new Edgewood Booster Station, the City will be draining the easternmost ground storage tank in the alley between Ric Drive, Storey Drive, and Edgewood Drive.

These tanks each have a capacity of 5 million gallons and were constructed in the late 50's.  Due to the change in elevation across Midland, these tanks act as a tower to the eastern portion of the City.  The water level in them is the same as in Hogan elevated tower.

Workers will draw this tank down as far as possible and then drain the rest of the water to the street.  This will result in curb deep water in places. Motorists are encouraged to be careful when approaching intersections with running water.

Stringent requirements on the drinking water supply do not allow the City to pump the water back into the system and the City cannot drain the tanks dry without draining the Hogan tower as well.  This would result in dangerously low pressures for half the City.

At that same time these tanks were built, a pump station was constructed on Edgewood Drive.  In a cost saving move, this station actually utilized used pumps when it was built.  As the City has grown, this station is no longer capable of meeting the demands.

A new station was included in the bond sales three years ago.  This station, along with the associated controls and piping, will be completed at a cost of $4.1 million.  The new station will improve pressures on the western side of town, increase reliability, and be more efficient than the existing one.

The City appreciates the patience of the residents of Midland, and especially the residents in this area, as we try to improve service and provide for the future of the City.
