WARRANT ROUNDUP
The City of Midland Municipal Court is participating in a statewide roundup of persons with outstanding municipal warrants.  The multi-jurisdictional warrant roundup will begin on Saturday, March 7th and continue through March 13th. 

Defendants with outstanding warrants of arrest for traffic, parking, city ordinance, or state law violations are being targeted by multi-jurisdictions.  The participating agencies, over 130 in Texas, are concentrating their efforts to clear these outstanding warrants.

The City of Midland Municipal Court will be participating in this roundup.  Warrant reminder letters have been mailed to defendants with outstanding warrants notifying them of the upcoming roundup.  Affected persons are urged to contact the appropriate jurisdiction to dispose of their cases voluntarily and avoid arrest during the actual roundup.

Approximately 3,186 warrant reminder letters were mailed to defendants with outstanding warrants in the City of Midland, notifying them of the upcoming roundup on February 2, 2009.

If anyone is unable to remit payment in full, they must make a personal appearance a Municipal Court, 406 E. Illinois Avenue.  Court hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.; Thursdays Only 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.; and Fridays Only 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. (Please arrive 15 minutes early)  For more information, please contact 685.7308.


RETIREMENT
The Midland Fire Department will bid farewell to two long-time employees.  A reception will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Fire.

Captain Russell Brooks will enter into retirement after 28 years of service with the Midland Fire Department.  He first started work with the City in February 1981 as a firefighter. 

Fire Driver Tommy Tucker will enter into retirement after 30 years of service with the Midland Fire Department.  He first started work with the City in February 1979 as a firefighter. 

The two have worked at the same Fire Station for approximately 20 years of their service and decided to retire together.

The Midland Fire Department wishes them well.  Please help make this a special day for the retiring employees and their family.


HAND COMBAT DEFENSE & KNIFE DEFENSE
Midland Police Officers will be among our law enforcement participating in a “cutting-edge” training opportunity.  On Wednesday, February 18 & Thursday, February 19, 2009, officers will learn the latest defense tactics from a world-class trainer.  The training will take place at the MPD Training Facility located at 4214 FM 307, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The two-day course will be taught by Paul Buentello.  Buentello is currently a MMA fighter who will be in Midland for a fight event.  While here, he agreed to train Law Enforcement officers in Hand Combat Defense and Knife Defense skills. 

Buentello has trained for the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy once before with great reviews. 

The first 1 ½ days will focus on hand combat and the final ½ day will focus on knife defense.


PARTNERSHIP FOR PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE
The City of Midland will join forces with the “Help is Here Express” to allow residents to receive needed help with prescription medications.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance bus will be located outside the Midland Health Department, 3303 W. Illinois on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.  The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Help is Here Express is equipped with computer terminals and mobile phones so people can find out if they may be eligible for help getting their prescription medications.  Specialists will be aboard to make sure the application process is quick and easy.
