AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
Midland Police have arrested one man and charged him with Aggravated Robbery following an incident at Speedy Pack, 1201 Garden City Highway.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 12:51 p.m. Police were also notified by a citizen who had followed the suspect in a vehicle. The suspect fled on foot and a witness followed him until police arrived. Officers were able to arrest 17-year-old Jearon Keith (7-10-91) while he was fleeing the scene near Carver and Adams on Washington Street. They recovered a 9mm pistol used in the Aggravated Robbery.
Witness told police Keith entered the store, displayed the pistol, and demanded money from the clerk. He then fled north on foot.
The investigation continues.
CITY EMPLOYEE BEING REVIEWED
A City of Midland employee’s employment is being reviewed following an investigation by the Midland Police Department.
Sammy Ray Collins, Jr. (6-28-74) was arrested on placed February 23, 2009. He works as a Service Center Tech for the City. Collins is charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Minor and Using a Minor to Distribute a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a public school. The charges were filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
M.I.S.D. Police contacted the MPD on Monday in reference to a student possibly selling Vicodin pills. The student reported receiving the pills from Collins.
The City of Midland is reviewing his employment to determine if he will be placed on Administrative Leave pending the investigation or Terminated.
