CITY PARTICIPATES IN SALES TAX HOLIDAY
The City of Midland will join many other cities throughout the state of Texas for the eleventh annual sales tax holiday. On August 21, 22, & 23, families will be able to do most of their back-to-school shopping without paying sales tax.
Like last year’s holiday, this year’s applies to most clothing and footwear products priced $99.99 and less. This year it is expected to save Texans more than $54 million in state and local sales taxes.
CHURCH BURGLARIES UPDATE
Midland Police have arrested a man in connection several recent church Burglaries.
34-year-old George Navarrette (11-2-74) was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary of a Business today, August 18, 2009. Detectives have been investigating the Burglaries since the first one occurred in June.
Navarrette was arrested for the following Business Burglaries:
08-15-09 -- Abundant Life Worship Center -- 4801 Princeton Avenue
08-17-09 – St. Nicholas Episcopal Church – 4000 W. Loop 250 N (just reported today)
He is also a suspect in the following Burglaries:
06-27-09 -- Manna For Life Church -- 701 S. Calhoun
07-15-09 -- The Potters House Christian Fellowship -- 1536 S. Lamesa Road
07-27-09 -- Alamo Heights Baptist Church -- 1305 N. Midland Drive
08-01-09 -- Alamo Heights Baptist Church -- 1305 N. Midland Drive
Navarrette was arrested back in May in connection with multiple church Burglaries.
