CITY ENTERS NEW FISCAL YEAR
October 1, 2009, marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for the City of Midland.
The FY09/10 Budget presented many challenges in preparing. The $165 million total budget reflects a 5.31% or $9,225,986 decrease from the FY 2008/09 Budget.
The property tax rate will decrease 2.91 cents to 45.68 cents/$100 valuation. The City’s property tax rate is at its lowest in 21 years.
The Budget includes a 5% broadband pay adjustment for City employees meeting progression criteria on April 1, 2010. In addition, public safety employees will receive funding of a 5% step increase as of April 1, 2010.

YAPPY HOUR
Midland Animal Services will participate in Yappy Hour. The event will take place on Monday, October 5th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Sedona grill, 2101 W. Wadley.
The monthly event, held the first Monday of each month, is an opportunity for dog owners to take their pet out for a night on the town. Dog owners can socialize while the dogs are making new friends.
The event is a great way to help support local animal welfare groups.
NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL SERVICE
The City of Midland will observe the National Fallen firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, October 4, 2009. In observance of this day, all city flags will be lowered to half-staff to memorialize fallen firefighters.
On October 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring the American flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters. The City of Midland is choosing to participate to recognize the brave men and women who died in the Line of Duty.
“A ROLLING STONES EXPERIENCE”
The Rolling Stones are coming to Midland! Well, almost, let’s just say the next best thing to the world’s greatest rock-n-roll band. It is an exciting tribute production entitled “Satisfaction/A Rolling Stones Experience.” The show is coming to Midland on October 8, 2009, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Beal Park Amphitheatre. The show is free to the public.
“Satisfaction/A Rolling Stones Experience” is an international touring tribute. Now in its sixth year of production and over 1000 performances, the show recently wrapped up a successful long term engagement in Las Vegas. This highly acclaimed production showcases the most authentic cast and costuming of its kind. The likes of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and cast bring a colorful performance to over 40 years of classic hits.
Food vendors will be on site. Residents can also bring picnic baskets and lawn chairs and blankets.
