SHOOTING ARREST
Lubbock Police have arrested a Lubbock man wanted in connection with an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon case out of Midland.
37-year-old Baldo Gonzalez (8-20-72) was arrested on Monday, November 2, 2009, in Lubbock by SWAT on a traffic stop. Gonzalez was wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred on October 20, 2009, at Yorkman’s Detail Shop, 3400 block of Illinois.
Gonzalez was stopped by Lubbock Police in the 1986 Pontiac which was one of the vehicles listed as the suspect vehicle.
He is currently being held in the Lubbock County Jail for some unrelated charges out of Lubbock as well as the Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge from the Midland Police Department. Bond was set on the Aggravated Assault charge by Justice of the Peace Joe Matlock (Midland) at $250,000.00. This was a pre-set bond.
Gonzalez was developed as a suspect through a diligent investigation which included assistance from Federal agencies, state agencies, and Lubbock city and county agencies.
Detectives will be interviewing Gonzalez in Lubbock at a later date. He will not be brought back to Midland until Lubbock authorities complete their proceedings on charges in Lubbock.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on October 20, 2009, 26-year-old Robert Yorkman was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso.
According to reports, the suspect, Gonzalez, arrived at the business earlier in the day, with a Hispanic female, asking about an estimate on a detail job. When he returned just before 4:00 p.m. he walked into the bay area of the business and was alone. He approached Yorkman and appeared to have something concealed behind his back. Yorkman attempted to run out of the bay. He was shot one time in the lower back just outside the business. The weapon used was a handgun.
MISSING PERSON FOUND
A missing Midland man has been found deceased.
At approximately 5:12 p.m. today, November 2, 2009, 55-year-old John Knittel was discovered in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Lakes Apartments. He was deceased inside the 1998 red Chevrolet truck. Foul play is not suspected.
Knittel was last seen on October 21, 2009. His family reported him missing on October 28, 2009.
The investigation continues.
