SHOW OF SUPPORT
Midland Mayor Wes Perry is encouraging the public to show their support to the brave men & women who have served our country in the military.  On Thursday, November 19, 2009, there is a full schedule of activities in conjunction with the 6th annual Show of Support.

Twenty-four men will be honored at a parade beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The parade will start at the Hilton on Wall Street in Downtown Midland and head west on Wall to Dennis the Menace Park.  Midlanders are asked to bring your co-workers, friends, children and grandchildren, U.S. flags in hand, to wave and cheer for these men and women with our appreciation – West Texas style!

The 24 honorees are from various branches of service and were wounded while fighting the Global War on Terror.  These individuals have selflessly given their service to our nation so that we, here in Midland, can enjoy the safety and freedoms they fought to protect. There is not a more noble cause than what these individuals have taken upon themselves to do. Their sense of honor, dignity, pride and sacrifice is what allows us to live in a nation where others so desperately want to be.

WATER MAIN CONSTRUCTION
As part of the ongoing construction at the City of Midland Water Purification Plant, 5006 N. Midland Drive, residents should expect lower water pressure as well as water in the roadway.  This will last for one day, Thursday, November 19, 2009.

A major connection will be made to a transmission main in the street in front of the plant located on Midland Drive near Bluebird Lane.  A section of the line will be removed and replaced with a tee that will allow more water to enter the system from the new pumps at the plant.  During this process, the water pressure will be lower than normal and water will run in the streets north of Loop 250 near Midland Drive, including residential areas.

Residents in north Midland are asked to refrain from outdoor irrigation during this time to minimize the reduction in pressures and ensure adequate supplies to all customers.

This work is part of a $21 million project at the Water Purification Plant that was funded in 2007.  The project is scheduled for completion in early summer 2010.

EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
The City of Midland is honoring nine employees who have gone beyond the call of duty at the annual Exceeding Expectations Awards Banquet to be held November 19, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., at the historic Scarborough-Linebery House, 802 S. Main.

Employees being honored at the luncheon are Rosie Garcia and Eli Rivera, Code Administration; Jeff Meiner, James Garner, and David Hickman, Fire Department; Liz Sanchez, Purchasing; Marcos Ybarra, Animal Services; Barbara Parker, Customer Service; and Polo Calzada, Transportation.

The City’s Exceeding Expectations program is a way of recognizing employees who have gone “above and beyond” to assist the citizens of Midland and co-workers.  Over the past 11 years there have been 607 nominations and 238 finalists.  Nomination forms are on the City of Midland webpage at www.midlandtexas.gov under Human Resources.  The public is encouraged to nominate any city employees who they observe going above what is expected in delivery of service to the citizens of the community.
