CITY PREPARES FOR WEATHER CONDITIONS
The City of Midland is taking steps to ensure motorists have a safe commute in the morning. Forecasters are predicting freezing temperatures and precipitation later this evening and overnight. City workers are gearing up to combat the slick roads.
The Transportation Division has two water trucks loaded with a salt water mixture. They also have a 5-ton truck and a 1-ton truck loaded with gravel for overpasses along the City's channels.
This is in addition to any preparations by TXDOT targeting Loop 250. The city will assist if needed with an emergency barricade trailer and cones for closing Loop 250 and other City streets. Loop 250 can only be closed with permission from the TXDOT area engineer.
The City encourages motorists to avoid overpasses and take extra time tomorrow morning if the roadways become icy.
CHRISTMAS PARADE & TREE LIGHTING
Bundle up and be one of the first to see the City’s new 30-foot Christmas tree. The Christmas Night Lights Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, in downtown Midland.
The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois and Main. It will travel west on Illinois, south on A Street, and east on Wall Street to the Midland Center.
The tree lighting and visits with Santa will take place after the parade, at approximately 8:00 p.m. in Centennial Plaza.
Following the tree lighting, residents are invited to stay for a movie in the park. The movie ELF will be played on a large blow up screen in Centennial Plaza.
There will be fun for everyone and hot chocolate donated by the Midland Reporter-Telegram. The public is encouraged to attend this FREE event.
