POLICE RECRUITS GRADUATE
The 83rd session of the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy will hold a graduation ceremony on Friday, December 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena. Fourteen recruits will walk the stage as a culmination to months of hard work.
The graduation is good news for the Midland Police Department as ten of the fourteen graduates will go to work for the MPD. One will go to work in Lamesa, and one for Howard County, one for the Big Spring Fire Marshal, and one is currently seeking employment.
The recruits from the Midland Police Department include: Anthony Corson, Kyland Wegner, Eliud Amparan, James Horne, Michael Cure, Aaron Shaw, Michael Chandler, Juan Gutierrez, Chris Coufal, and Christopher Seal.
The 18-week academy began back on August 3, 2009, with 23 recruits. The academy included a rigorous academic schedule, physical fitness, as well has defensive tactics training. All were required to pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education exam.
The new officers will move on to the Field Training Officer (FTO) program as Probationary Police Officers (PPO) for 18-weeks. During this time, they are teamed up with experienced officers and are rated daily on their performance in the field as well as paper work.
This is a particularly large graduating class for the MPD. On average, the MPD usually graduates up to five per academy. The MPD is currently working to test and fill spots for the next academy in August 2010.
Anyone interested in becoming a police officer should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7590.
