ANIMAL CRUELTY INVESTIGATION
City of Midland Animal Services and the Midland Police Department responded to a call of a dead animal around 9:30 a.m. today, December 11, 2009.

When officers arrived at the scene at 1111 E. Hickory, they discovered two dead dogs in the yard.  Both of the dogs were chained.  Three other dogs were located alive and chained.

The two deceased dogs were pit bulls.  Two of the three remaining dogs are pit bulls and the third is a mix.  Two of the remaining dogs have been taken by a family member.  One dog remains at the residence.

Animal Services is in the process of locating the owner of the two deceased dogs.   The owner faces charges of Animal Cruelty.  The owner of the deceased animals is not the property owner.  The investigation continues and more details will be released as they become available.

INTERSECTION REOPENS
The intersection of Garfield Street and Golf Course Road is open to through traffic.  The intersection has been closed since November 14th.

The westbound outside lane of Golf Course Road will remain closed a little longer while additional repairs are made to the surface.

On November 14th, a sinkhole was caused by the failure of a storm sewer drain pipe.  The pipe rusted through on the bottom, allowing two pipe sections to slip apart.  The result was rainwater escaping under the roadway until a hole appeared in the street.

Traffic had been detoured through the areas surrounding the intersection while workers replaced the entire pipe in the intersection.
