VACCINATION CLINIC
Midland Health & Senior Services will provide a FREE public vaccination clinic open to anyone who would like to receive the H1N1 vaccination.
The clinics will be held:
Monday, December 21st - Wednesday, December 23rd
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Midland Health & Senior Services 3303 W. Illinois, Space 22
As long as the Health Department continues to receive the H1N1 vaccine from the State, Public Health will continue to provide free clinics. The disease is still present in our community and public health officials want to prevent the spread of H1N1.
The vaccine is voluntary and will be offered on a walk-in-basis, free of charge. Seasonal flu vaccine will not be available at the clinic.
MOBILE SUBSTATION PATROLS RETAIL AREAS
Beginning tomorrow, December 19, 2009, the Midland Police Department’s Mobile Substation and its officers will be out in full force keeping an eye on retail shopping areas. The substation and officers will work every day from December 19 – December 24.
Last minute shoppers are expected to converge on retail stores including the areas around Midland Park Mall, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Wal-Mart North, Wal-Mart South, and Academy.
This is part of the MPD’s annual project to help keep these busy areas safe. Shoppers are asked to take simple precautions to not become a victim: walk with someone, hide packages inside vehicles, and to carry only what you need.
ENGAGING IN ORGANIZED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
Midland Police have arrested nine suspects in connection with a fraudulent check scam.
Warrants were issued yesterday for William Jamont Scott, Ronie Meridyth, Michael Meridyth, Andrew Mayweather, Robert Rodriguez, Kiaka Brockington, Robert Timberlake, Maurin Strambler, and Stephanie Sanders.
Detectives of the White Collar Division discovered the scam one week ago when some of the suspects were captured passing bad checks. The suspects would go register a DBA (doing business as) name at the courthouse and would then go to a bank and open checking accounts under that name. They would ask for temporary checks which, obviously did not have any funds, and began to pass them at various locations around town.
The total amount of loss to merchants of the city tops $20,000. All nine suspects were charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity to wit: Theft o/1,500 u/20,000.
