CITY PREPARES FOR WEATHER CONDITIONS
The City of Midland is taking steps to ensure motorists have a safe commute in the morning.  Forecasters are predicting freezing temperatures and precipitation later this evening and overnight.  City workers are gearing up to combat the slick roads.

The Transportation Division has two water trucks loaded with a salt water mixture. They also have a 5-ton truck and a 1-ton truck loaded with gravel for overpasses along the City's channels.

This is in addition to any preparations by TXDOT targeting Loop 250. The city will assist if needed with an emergency barricade trailer and cones for closing Loop 250 and other City streets. Loop 250 can only be closed with permission from the TXDOT area engineer.

The City encourages motorists to avoid overpasses and take extra time tomorrow morning if the roadways become icy.

WARRANT ROUNDUP 2010
The City of Midland Municipal Court is participating in a statewide roundup of persons with outstanding municipal warrants.  The multi-jurisdictional warrant roundup will begin on Saturday, March 6th and continue through March 13th.

Defendants with outstanding warrants of arrest for traffic, parking, city ordinance, or state law violations are being targeted by multi-jurisdictions.  The participating agencies, over 200 in Texas, are concentrating their efforts to clear these outstanding warrants.

The City of Midland Municipal Court will be participating in this roundup.  Warrant reminder letters have been mailed to defendants with outstanding warrants notifying them of the upcoming roundup.  Affected persons are urged to contact the appropriate jurisdiction to dispose of their cases voluntarily and avoid arrest during the actual roundup.

Approximately 4,475 warrant reminder letters were mailed to defendants with outstanding warrants in the City of Midland, notifying them of the upcoming roundup on February 1, 2010.

If anyone is unable to remit payment in full, they must make a personal appearance at Municipal Court, 406 E. Illinois Avenue.  Court hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.; Thursdays Only 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.; and Fridays Only 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. (Please arrive 15 minutes early) For more information, please contact 685.7308.

The meeting is being held prior to the City Council’s annual Strategic Planning Session. Citizens of District 3 are encouraged to share their vision for Midland with their elected official.

PLANT UPGRADE UPDATE
The City of Midland is completing the final work on the $21 million upgrade to the Water Purification Plant.  For one week, the plant will be shut down to replace critical electrical equipment.  This shut down is scheduled for February 22 through the 26, 2010.

During this time, the only water available to the City will be from the Paul Davis Well Field.  This supply is adequate if we, as residents of Midland, restrict all outside watering to only that which is essential.

As warm weather approaches, residents are looking to begin the irrigation season.  We ask all residents to feel free to water this weekend (February 20-21) as much as they need but, beginning Sunday night, turn off their outside systems until the following Friday night.  This will ensure adequate supplies for everyone.

It has been a long process to upgrade the City's water system and we appreciate the patience of all residents.  We have scheduled this shut down during a historical low water period and rely, as always, on residents to help us, and their neighbors, through this period.
