CHAINED ANIMALS
On February 25, 2010, a City of Midland Animal Control Officer picked up a female pit bull dragging a 12 foot chain. The portion of chain around the dog had embedded itself into the neck of the dog, going about 1 - 2 inches deep into the tissue.
Animal Services is reminding pet owners not to chain or tie up animals for an extended period of time. Officers routinely work with owners on better ways to restrain their pets. Responsible owners should have a dog run or a securely fenced yard for their animals.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Animal Service Officers have seen an incident like this and consider it animal cruelty. Injuries like this can lead to severe infection, and if the collar or chain is not removed, and the wound treated, it can ultimately lead to the trachea being severed.
The dog seems to be doing remarkably well considering the injuries and was wagging her tail this morning at feeding time.
