SCAM WARNING
Within the last few weeks the several Midland citizens have been taken advantage of by individuals who are running a scam. They obtain money from victims under the pretense they are helping a relative experiencing car trouble.
In most cases, a person will call the victim representing themselves as their grandson, or nephew. The suspect will tell the victim they are stranded on a highway and needing money to get their vehicle repaired or towed to a mechanic shop. Then a second suspect will call as a mechanic service or tow truck driver and ask for a certain amount of money. To assist the stranded motorist they offer to pick up the money from the victim at which time the money is collected never to be seen again.
So far we have received over ten reported cases with very little suspect description.
The suspect, who in most cases has received the money, is described as:
a white male, approximately 35 years old, 5'07" to 5'09", 140 lbs., with brown hair, a mustache, and beard. He was last seen driving a dark colored or royal blue, smaller vehicle, Chevrolet or Honda make.
Citizens are strongly encouraged not to give any money to unknown people unless they can confirm a relative is involved in an actual emergency.
