2009 CRIME STATISTICS
The Midland Police Department has compiled crime statistics for the year of 2009. The following numbers refer to Part I Crimes, crimes that are most likely to be reported and are also serious in nature and/or volume.

The theft category consists of thefts and auto burglaries. These were up 353 incidents over last year. Many of the thefts were from vehicles that were unlocked. Other property was unsecured, for example, tools or similar items taken out of the bed of a pickup.
Three of the violent crime categories were down from last year.
MPD is raising public awareness regarding the importance of putting valuables in the trunk and locking vehicle doors. Maps of high occurrences of theft were run in the media to heighten citizen awareness, focus is on emerging crime trends and patterns in twice a month CompStat meetings, and MPD is in the final stages of releasing a web-based mapping application allowing residents to access and map crime data and set up e-mail alerts to warn them of crime occurring in and around their neighborhood.
