HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT
The Midland Police Department has arrested one woman following an accident on Saturday, July 10, 2010.
Police were called to the scene of an accident near the intersection of Midland Drive and Dengar. Upon investigation it was discovered 32 year-old Jessica Hernandez of Midland was traveling southbound on Midland Drive in an orange 2004 Ford Mustang. A tan 2004 GMC Envoy was traveling eastbound on Dengar and in the process of turning north on Midland Drive struck the Mustang, sending the Mustang spinning 190 feet.
Witnesses said the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed while racing another vehicle. After examining the scene, it is believed Hernandez’s excessive speed was the contributing factor to the accident.
Hernandez’s 14 year-old daughter and a 14 year-old male juvenile were riding in the Mustang and suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital. Hernandez and the driver of the Envoy were not injured.
Hernandez was also found to be intoxicated. She was arrested for Racing Causing Bodily Injury, which is a 3rd degree felony, and DWI with a Juvenile Passenger, which is a state jail felony.
While the investigation continues, the Midland Police Department would like to remind the community it is not only extremely unsafe to race, but it is also a felony.
BE SAFE AND DON’T RACE.
