MIDLAND 101
The City of Midland is gearing up to start the application process for this year’s Midland 101. The application will be available starting Monday, August 2, 2010 online at www.MidlandTexas.gov <http://www.MidlandTexas.gov> or in the City Manager’s office at 300 N. Loraine.
The program will consist of 25 participants that are determined on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To be eligible, a few requirements must be met:
- Citizens must be at least 18 years of age
- Participants must reside within the City of Midland city limits
- Participants must be registered to vote in Midland County
- Participants must not currently hold or be running for elected office in any city, school district, county, state, or federal governmental body
- Must be able to make a commitment to attend meetings
The classes will begin in October 2010 and run through April 2011, meeting once a month on the second Wednesday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The mission of Midland 101 is to familiarize citizens with the structure, function, and purpose of Midland government, and to equip and encourage them to assume a leadership role within the community.
ANNUAL BOARD/COMMISION APPOINTMENTS
The Midland City Council will begin making Board/Commission appointments in September for the new fiscal year. There are a total of 54 seats available due to term expirations or vacancies.
The majority of the terms begin October 1. The terms generally vary from two to four years. A complete list of Boards/Commissions, along with meeting schedules, is attached to the application form. The application is available at the City Secretary’s office, Room 330, City Hall, 685-7430. It can also be found online at www.MidlandTexas.gov (select City Government, then click on Boards and Commissions). The deadline to apply is 5:00 pm on
Friday, August 27, 2010.

- Airport Planning and Development Board – 4 seats
- City Development Advisory Committee – 2 seats
- Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals – 6 seats
- Hotel/Motel Tax Advisory Board – 3 seats
- Housing Authority Commission – 2 seats
- Midland Center Advisory Board – 3 seats
- Midland Football-Soccer and Baseball Complex Development Corporation – 1 seat
- Midland Higher Education Facilities Corporation – 7 seats
- Midland Housing Finance Corporation – 3 seats
- Midland-Odessa Urban Transit District Board – 3 seats
- Parks and Recreation Commission – 4 seats
- Planning and Zoning Commission – 2 seats
- Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board – 8 seats
- Zoning Board of Adjustment and Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment – 6 seats
