NATIONAL DRUNK DRIVING. OVER THE LIMIT. UNDER ARREST. CRACKDOWN
The Midland Police Department has joined a national initiative to crackdown on drunk driving. The initiative started August 20th and will run through September 6th.
All 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have established a threshold making it illegal per se to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 grams per deciliter or higher. Yet, nearly 12,000 people in 2008 were killed in U.S. highway crashes involving drivers or motorcycle riders with illegal BACs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
It is highly encouraged that if you are impaired, do not drive – call a taxi, use mass transit, or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely. If you see an impaired driver, report to MPD promptly. Wear a seat belt while in a car or protective gear if riding a motorcycle, these are your best defenses against impaired drivers. Last but not least, if you know someone that is about to drive, take their keys and help them get where they are going safely.
The consequences for the crime of driving while impaired are serious and real. Not only will they be faced with personal consequences and financial costs such as jail time, loss of drivers license, court costs, fines, but also the risk of killing, disabling, and injuring themselves or others.
The crime is serious, don’t take the risk. The MPD will arrest you, no exceptions if driving impaired.

BURGLARIES
The Midland Police Department is in search of information regarding seven burglaries that have happened starting the beginning of May.
Six of the burglaries happened in an apartment, while the other one was a single home residence. Four of the occurrences, the victim was at home.
The seven burglaries have similarities. The locations are along Loop 250 between A Street and Midkiff, with boundaries being as follows: North is Bluebird, South is Hanes, East is A Street, and West is Midkiff. Several auto burglaries have also occurred in this area of unlocked car doors. The burglaries are happening for the most part between 6:30 pm and midnight. Electronics and cash from wallets or purses have been targeted. None of the victims have been injured.
The MPD has very little suspect information or physical evidence. Any that has been obtained is being processed and potential suspects are being reviewed based on past activity.
If you have any information, call the Midland Police Department.
The MPD would like to remind the public of the importance to secure your residents, keep valuables out of sight, close garage doors, lock doors and call in any suspicious activity or people in your neighborhood.
For tips on how to better secure your home call MPD Community Relations at 685-7582. They can come out and do a home survey to help protect you and your home.
