Scharbauer Road Closure and Detour Plan

Starting April 30th, the contractor working for the City of Midland will shut down the south side of Scharbauer Dr. (eastbound traffic) from Barber Street to Tyler Street. Lamesa Road will be closed to through traffic from the Scharbauer Bridge to the north side of Elm Ave. Access will be provided to local businesses and residences. 

Eastbound through-traffic along Scharbauer Dr. will be routed to the north side of the Channel. Scharbauer Dr. on the north side of the channel will allow traffic in both the east and west directions from Barber St. to Carver St. The traffic signal at Scharbauer Dr. and Lamesa Rd. will be temporarily replaced with an all-way stop. 

Scharbauer Drive Eastbound Traffic 

•Traffic intending to go north on Lamesa Rd. will be diverted to the north side of the channel at Barber St., then north at the temporary all-way stop at Lamesa Rd. 

•Traffic intending to go south on Lamesa Rd. will be routed south on Barber St., then east at Golf Course Rd. to Lamesa Rd. 

•Scharbauer Dr. eastbound through-traffic will be diverted to the north side of the channel at Barber St. and will be directed back to Scharbauer Dr. (eastbound lanes) at Carver St. 

Scharbauer Drive Westbound Traffic 

•Traffic intending to go north on Lamesa Rd. will able to turn north at the temporary all-way stop at the Intersection of Scharbauer Dr. and Lamesa Rd. 

•Traffic intending to go south on Lamesa Rd. will be routed south on Carver St., then west at Golf Course Rd. to Lamesa Rd. 

•Scharbauer Dr. westbound through-traffic will remain on Scharbauer Dr. through the temporary all- way stop at the Intersection of Scharbauer Dr. and Lamesa Rd. 

Lamesa Road Southbound Traffic 

•Traffic intending to go south will be routed west on Scharbauer Dr. at the temporary all-way stop, then south on Barber St., then east at Golf Course Rd. to Lamesa Rd. 

•Traffic intending to go east or west on Scharbauer Dr. will turn at the temporary all-way stop at the intersection of Scharbauer Dr. and Lamesa Rd. 

Lamesa Road Northbound Traffic 

•Traffic intending to go north on Lamesa Rd. will be routed east on Golf Course Rd., then north on 
Carver St., then west on Scharbauer Dr. to the temporary all-way stop at Lamesa Rd. 

•Traffic intending to go east on Scharbauer Dr. will be routed east on Golf Course Rd., then north on Carver St. to Scharbauer Dr. 

•Traffic intending to go west on Scharbauer Dr. be routed west on Golf Course Rd. then north on Barber St., to Scharbauer Dr. 



If rain forces the closure of the low water crossings at Barber St. and Carver St. traffic will be diverted to Main St. and Fairgrounds Rd.


Engineering Project Road Closures and Traffic Alerts

The City of Midland Engineering Services Department has the following projects under construction. 

Road closures and traffic alerts for each project are listed below: 

Lamesa Road – Manhole Construction 
* Lamesa will be closed on the North Side of Scharbauer 
* Scharbauer will be open in all directions. 

Detour signs routing traffic around the construction site are in place.
