February Sales Tax Revenue
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office. The total amount of revenue received was $4,006,408.
This month's figure reflects a 15.7 percent increase or a $543,609 increase from February 2012.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2012-2013 is up 15.07 percent or a $2,117,777 increase from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $16,168,954.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; February collection is based on December sales.
Fatal Motorcycle Accident Investigation
The Midland Police Department continues to investigate a fatal accident that occurred Tuesday near the intersection of Big Spring Street and Loop 250.
The Midland Police Department responded to an accident involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle at 4:06 p.m. near the intersection of Big Spring Street and Loop 250, where motorcyclist Joe Anthony Montemayor, 36, of Midland, was pronounced dead on scene.
Montemayor had been traveling southbound on Big Spring Street when he collided with a white Ford F-150 headed eastbound on the south service road of Loop 250. The Ford also grazed the front of another truck that was stopped on the south side of Loop 250 on Big Spring Street, causing minimal damage.
Next of kin have been notified.
Investigators are currently reviewing a large amount of information, including evidence from the scene, witness statements and available video. There are no charges at this time pending the investigation.
