Patriot Day - Remembering 9/11

MFD- 911

Honoring the heroes of 9/11, Midland Fire joined the Tall City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb over the weekend. As we climbed 110 stories step by step, we remembered and paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was a powerful experience that reminded us of our duty to serve and protect.

mpd 911

Honoring the heroes and victims of 9/11, Midland Police stood together in solemn remembrance during the 9/11 ceremony at Centennial Park. We remember, we honor, and we will never forget.

council notes 2023

Investing in our service, facilities and public safety

In the City Council Meeting, September 12, 2023, Council approved funds for two important City projects.

New Collection Stations:

Council approved the acceptance of a construction bid for two new Citizens Collection Stations in west and north Midland. The new stations will be at 6400 W. Highway 80 and near State Highway 349 and the Craddick Highway. These areas were chosen to address the continued growth in Midland and offer space for residents to drop large, household items or recyclables from residential homes. The current collection stations will remain open for residents until the new locations are open in 2025. More about residential collection stations can be seen on MidlandTexas.gov

Public Safety Improvements:

The City Council approved the budget to improve the public safety facilities. The Midland Police Department and Midland Fire Department will get updates to their headquarters. Midland Police Department will get upgrades to locker rooms, showers, bathrooms, and security fences around the parking lot. Midland Fire Department will get a new wellness center at the central fire station. Both departments are excited and grateful to see a major upgrade in the coming months.MidlandTexas.gov

Water Conservation Tip of the Month

faucet

Conquer Drips with Faucet Aerators

In our ongoing journey to conserve water, let's explore a small yet effective way to save water in our homes: faucet aerators. These little devices can make a big difference in reducing water usage without sacrificing functionality.

  • What's a Faucet Aerator? A faucet aerator is a simple attachment that screws onto the tip of your faucet. It works by mixing air with the water flowing from the tap, creating a consistent stream while using less water.
  • Why Faucet Aerators Matter:
  1. Water Savings: Faucet aerators can reduce water usage by up to 50% without affecting water pressure. This means you'll use less water for everyday tasks like washing your hands or doing dishes.
  2. Energy Savings: Less hot water is used, which also means energy savings. Using less hot water reduces your water heating costs and your overall energy consumption.

How to Install a Faucet Aerator:

  1. Gather Your Tools: You'll need a pair of pliers and a cloth to protect the faucet's finish.
  2. Prepare the Faucet: Turn off the water supply to the faucet.

Remove the Old Aerator (if applicable): If you have an old aerator, use pliers and a cloth to unscrew it from the faucet.

Install the New Aerator: Screw the new faucet aerator onto the faucet opening by hand and then use the pliers to tighten it slightly, being careful not to over-tighten and damage the aerator.

Test the Flow: Turn on the faucet and see the difference. You should notice a consistent, aerated flow of water that saves you water and energy.

Faucet aerators are affordable and easy to install, making them a practical choice for every household. By using one, you'll not only save water and money but also contribute to the sustainability of our community. Stay tuned for more water-saving tips in our upcoming newsletters. Thank you for your commitment to conserving water in Midland!
