Fire Department: EMS calls make up 74% of responses this year

EMS calls again dwarf fire calls in June; fire calls drop compared to June 2024

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- EMS calls inside Midland County through the first half of 2025 make up 74.3% of the calls the Midland Fire Department responded to during that period, according to numbers released this week by the MFD.

Midland Fire also reported that EMS calls in June and through the first six months of the year (January-June) dwarf fire calls. MFD reported 1,413 EMS calls in June and 35 fire calls. Those totals rose to 8,556 EMS calls in January through May and 447 fire calls during the same period. There were 447 “other” calls in June.

Midland Fire also reported that fire calls dropped by 43% in June 2025 (compared to June 2024). The number of fire calls through six months is relatively even (322 in 2025 compared to 331 during the same period in 2024).

The Midland Fire Department responds to fire and EMS calls inside the city of Midland and throughout the county.
