MPD: SERIOUS CRIMES HAVE DROPPED 11% SINCE 2021

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Serious crimes in Midland remain at their lowest levels going back to at least 2021, according to preliminary 2025 numbers from the Midland Police Department.

MPD reported total serious or Part 1 crimes dropped 0.22% in 2025. That decrease is still an 11.1% drop going back to 2021.

Part 1 crimes refer to specific offenses defined by the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program established by the FBI to track and report crime statistics in the U.S. These crimes are considered the most serious and are used as a standard measure of crime levels.

Homicides are down for the third-straight year from 13 in 2022 to seven in 2023 to five in 2024 and three in 2025, according to MPD. The number of homicides is at the lowest level since at least 2021.

Assault and Burglary dropped to their lowest levels going back to 2021. Also down in 2025 was motor vehicle thefts.

Total crimes, including misdemeanors, increased from 11,102 in 2024 to 11,604 in 2025. The 2025 total still is the second lowest going back to at least 2021.
