TXDOT TO START PROJECT IN SOUTH MIDLAND

(June 4, 2024)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Texas Department of Transportation announced that a south Midland project is set to begin on Thursday.

The project will take place on Belmont Street at Longview Avenue and will include construction of a mini-roundabout, concrete paving and accessible sidewalk upgrades. It was approved by the City Council in 2022.

In 2020, the City applied for and was awarded grant funding through the Highway Safety Improvement Program of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The grant is intended to improve traffic safety at the intersection of West Longview Avenue and South Belmont Street, which was determined to be a high crash location based on the Midland Transportation Division’s annual reviews.

Construction was recently completed at Baird Street between Gist Avenue and IH-20 and is now open to traffic,” city officials reported. “The start of the Belmont and Longview project was intentionally delayed to ensure the completion of Baird Street improvements.”
