(May 15, 2025)
MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At approximately 7:14 p.m. on Wednesday (May 14, 2025), Midland Police Department and Fire Department officials responded to an accident with a motorcycle at the intersection of State Highway 191 and Farm-to-Market Road 1788.
MPD officials reported that a 2023 GMC Sierra was “traveling westbound in the inside lane of Highway 191 when the driver observed a motorcycle approaching from behind at a high rate of speed.”
“The driver of the Sierra stated that the operator of (the motorcycle) was approximately five car lengths behind and was weaving in and out of traffic,” MPD reported. “In an effort to allow (the motorcycle) to pass, (the driver of the Sierra) began a lane change into the outside lane. As (the motorcyclist) entered the outside lane — reportedly still at a high rate of speed — it struck the rear right bumper of (the Sierra).”
MPD added the impact caused the motorcycle to collide with the guardrail and that the operator of the 2014 Honda was ejected from the motorcycle and fell partially down the side of the overpass.
The motorcycle operator, identified as 21-year-old Samuel Dean Diaz of Rockport, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified, and the investigation continues.
