MAYOR: I WILL MONITOR SOUTH ELEMENTARY SITUATION CLOSELY

(Sept. 20, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- This past week, Midland ISD reported that Child Protective Services is investigating an incident inside special education classrooms at South Elementary School.

The district also reported that six employees resigned and two others remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong is providing the following statement on the situation at South Elementary.

Blong stated:

"I am aware of the concerns raised about the treatment of children at a Midland ISD campus. While the City of Midland does not oversee school district operations, the safety and wellbeing of every child in our community remain top priorities for me as mayor.

“I have spoken with local law enforcement and the District Attorney and have full confidence they will conduct a thorough investigation and recommend further action if needed.

“MISD has confirmed that six of the adults involved have resigned, while two more remain on administrative leave, and the district is taking steps to ensure the children are safe, to correct the situation, and to follow through with a full investigation and any additional action that may be required.

“We will continue to support our schools and families as they work to provide a safe and caring environment for every child. Please be assured that I will continue to monitor this situation closely."
