FAIRGROUNDS, WADLEY ADDITIONS TO IMPROVE CONNECTIVITY IN GROWING AREAS OF MIDLAND

(Dec. 2, 2025)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland is pleased to announce the recent completion of infrastructure that will help with connectivity to newly developed areas in the west and northeast.

Last week, the City announced the opening of the extension of Fairgrounds Road from Loop 250 to Mockingbird Lane. The extension will give Midlanders in the northeast part of the city another north-south corridor to the loop and toward downtown.

“This is a project that has been a long time in the making,” District 1 Councilman Brian Stubbs said. “This is a new area for us to get roads in. We have been working with developers and working with the county to make this system a lot better. It really shows the city is trying to catch up to that growth in the northeast side of Midland, which has been substantial during the last couple years and we plan for that to continue.”

In late October, the City of Midland opened another eagerly anticipated infrastructure project – the Wadley Avenue extension to State Highway 158. This extension provides an east-west thoroughfare, which should help take pressure off Briarwood Avenue and Andrews Highway/State Highway 191.

The City of Midland also has announced an update for traffic signals planned for West Wadley. They include:

  • Wadley Avenue and State Highway 158 (scheduled for 2026)
  • Wadley and the Preserve/Zoo entrance (developer driven/anticipated in 2027)
  • Wadley and Crowley (planned and designed for a possible 2027 installation).

“It helps with the connectivity in my district – District 4 – as well as the entire city,” District 4 Councilwoman Amy Stretcher Burkes said. “That way we have another east-west corridor to take traffic off State Highway 191 and Andrews Highway. We’ve had some great partners – TxDOT, the MDC and the county – and it is really exciting to see these projects come to fruition.”
