November decrease in airline passengers connected to government shutdown

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- There was an 11.25 decrease in airline passengers at Midland International Air & Space Port during the month of November.
The City of Midland Airports Department reported that 56,113 passengers flew out of Midland (compared to the 63,223 in November 2024). The federal government shutdown had an impact on the airline industry as seven of the eight airports that Midland serves were included in the 40 airports that had flight restrictions. Year-to-date, 126,666 passengers have flown out of Midland, which is a 3.02% decrease compared to the first two months of fiscal year 2025.
Southwest again led the way with 48.7% of the total passenger count. American Eagle and United rounded out the top three (26.1% and 25.52%, respectively). Despite the decrease in passengers, Airport officials showed $711,617 in net parking revenues in November, a 5.03% increase compared to November 2024.
The fiscal year for the City of Midland begins in October and continues through the following September.
