INCREASED CALLS INSIDE CITY LIMITS DRIVES HIGHER TOTALS IN JANUARY

(Feb. 13, 2026)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Midland Fire Department started 2026 with an 8.03% increase in call volume during the month of January.

MFD reports 2,031 calls in January, including 52 for fire and 1,534 for EMS. The big difference compared to January 2025 came with the “other” calls, which are those related to carbon monoxide, gas meter leaks, lines down, public service fire, HazMat, submerged vehicles and unusual odors. There were 445 in January compared to 327 in January 2025.

The Midland Fire Department previously reported a 5.6% increase in calls in 2025 compared to 2024.

The January report also shows that calls from the county (outside the city) dropped by more than one-half (from 349 in January 2025 to 173 in January 2026).
