COLD WEATHER ARRIVES IN MIDLAND; PLEASE STAY INDOORS

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Extreme cold conditions are now in the region.

The National Weather Service reports a temperature in the teens Saturday morning with light snow and other precipitation on the ground.

Roads are slick, and residents should remain inside to avoid the extreme conditions and be safe this weekend. Animal Services, the Citizens Collection Center (recycling) and the landfill are closed today.

The National Weather Service forecast for Midland for the rest of the day includes “a chance of snow showers, freezing rain, and sleet before 3 p.m., then freezing rain and sleet.” The NWS also expect a high temperature of 17, wind chill values as low as -1 and a total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

“Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.”

Tonight expect sleet, possibly mixed with snow showers and freezing rain before 3 a.m., then scattered snow showers. A low temperature around 8 degrees is expected, along with wind chill values as low as -5. The chance of precipitation is 80% and new snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.
