CITY POSTS NEW STANDARD FOR SALES TAX COLLECTED IN ONE MONTH
(Feb. 11, 2026)
MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland collected $7.986 million in sales tax during the month of February – a 20.12% increase compared to February 2025.
The collection is also a record for any month, breaking the previous record of $6.84 million set in May 2025. The record collection is partially due to an audit adjustment of approximately of $994,000 in the City's favor. The record revenue moved the year-to-date balance to $30.695 million, a 6.6% increase over this point last year. Midland’s fiscal year starts on Oct. 1.
The February sales tax collection is especially important as it serves as an indication of spending during the holiday season. Even without the audit adjustment, the City would have seen a greater collection than Februarys in the past.
This month's sales tax revenue also pushed the year-to-date total to more than $3.3 million higher than the fiscal year budget forecast.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; February’s collection is based on December sales. The City of Midland collects a full cent of the 8.25% of sales tax inside the City of Midland.
